Things to do nearby

There are a number of attractions and places to visit from Riverside B&B.

If you are interested in literature there are the homes of Wordsworth House , Beatrix Potter and John Ruskin to visit.  The area is rich in history and places worthy of a visit include Kendal Castle which dates back to the13th century as well as Sizergh Castle .

For the outdoors there is the Gizedale Forest with Go Ape and mountain biking on numerous trails. If you are a little more adventurous there is the Via Ferrata at Honister Slate Mine.

A 10 minute walk takes you to Waterhead pier where there are numerous boat trips to Bowness or to Wray Castle and at the southern end of Windermere there is the Lakes Aquarium as well as the motor museum. There is also the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway on Lakeside  at the southern end of Windermere.

There are numerous galleries in the area.  In Hawkshead there is the Beatrix Potter Gallery where you can see her amazing watercolours. Blackwell, The Arts and Craft House is also worth a visit as well as the Heaton Cooper Studio in Grasmere.

The history of Coniston and of John Ruskin can be found at the Ruskin Museum and Brantwood with great views over Coniston.  It is a great place to stop for a cup of tea. You can learn about the life and work of William Wordsworth at Dove Cottage and the Wordsworth Museum in Grasmere.

Other National Trust properties in the area include Allan Bank in Grasmere for a relaxing cup of tea and views over Grasmere and Townend the 17th century farmhouse in Troutbeck.
