Grasmere Lakeland Sports

Wrestling has always been popular in the North of England and in 1811 over 12,000 attended the wrestling at Carlisle Races with the Marquis of Queesbury and Lord Lonsdale in attendance.Grasmere soon became the Blue Riband Sports event in Northern England and was the “must go to place” for athletes to compete in and “the” place for ladies to parade their latest fashions. Think Royal Ascot. The 3 main sports events at Grasmere have always been the Fell Race, Cumberland and Westmorland style Wrestlingand the Hound Trails. It is widely recognised as the main event in the Wrestling Calendar even attracting competitors from abroad .

Grasmere Sports is always a great occasion with the massive crowds. It is brilliant and always has been. Don’t forget to pop in to Grasmere for the famous Grasmere Gingerbread.

About Richard & Diney

Richard & Diney met whilst working in London and moved to the Lake District in the summer of 2015. Moving to Ambleside was a quick and easy decision to make with planning taking place in the autumn of 2014. Richard spent the best part of 25 years in the world of finance before seeing the light and moving to Cumbria, while Diney’s love of the Lake District began during her first catering job working at the Outward Bound Centre in Eskdale.
