Riverside B&B Ambleside is just a 10-12 minute stroll into the centre of Ambleside. The walk takes you along a quiet lane and then over Miller Bridge and through the park. This all adds to the feeling of being in a rural setting away from the hustle and bustle of Ambleside. Don’t let this put you off as we are still within easy access of all the restaurants and shops. We have plenty of parking which can be a real bonus as parking is at a premium in the centre of town. You are frequently unable to park in Ambleside during the busy summer months. There is no need to reserve a parking spot at Riverside before you arrive for your stay with us.
If you are after some peace and quiet in a relaxing spot then Riverside B&B is without doubt the place for you. We have a comfortable guest lounge with a log burning stove which provides a cosy room to rest weary legs after a day in the fells. We do have a licence which means that you can enjoy a glass of wine or beer by the fire. Alternatively, there is plenty of seating outside in the garden and terrace area where you can enjoy a cup of tea or drinks. The gentle sound of the River Rothay in the background provides a peaceful backdrop. Our gardens are a great place to relax and catch up with some reading or maybe just pass the time away.
Tommy Watson built Riverside B&B in 1866. He was an Ambleside School Master and it is believed he had other means of income. He built is as a family home and it still retains that cosy family feel to it which many of our gusts mention when they first walk inside.
All around Riverside B&B there are some great walks without having to venture too far. We have Loughrigg fell immediately behind us which is without doubt one of the more popular destinations. Opposite us on the other side of town is Wansfell Pike which provides a great round trip into Troutbeck. We also have Red Screes or for the more adventurous you can try the Fairfield Horseshoe. Further afield there are some amazing views to be had of the Langdale pikes. Waterhead and Lake Windermere are just a short walk away and we can do it in about 15 minutes. Here you can catch a boat to Bowness and Lakeside or in the summer there is a ferry to Wray Castle.
Start the day with Diney’s award winning breakfasts and enjoy the many Lakeland fell walks from our very door-step. For our breakfasts we use the best locally sourced products wherever possible and we can cater for most dietary requirements. We aim to be as environmentally friendly as possible throughout Riverside. As you would expect, we are fully Wi-Fi internet enabled and our broadband uses fibre optic.
As a B&B we aim to do two things to the best of our ability. Provide you with a comfortable night sleep and set you off for the day with a good breakfast. Please let us know if you feel we have fallen short on any of these.
Please have a look around our website and find out why so many people stay with us all the year round and return often. There are many suggestions of walks as well as things to do in the Lake District National Park and a section on some of the restaurants in town. We are more than happy to give you any advice prior to your visit to Riverside B&B. Our blog can be found under Ambleside Gems which tells you what we have been up to recently! We hope that you will also choose to stay with us.
We have a holiday let next door called Gilbertscar which you can book on-line on our website. If you prefer the old fashioned way just give us a call and we can give you availability and prices. If you would like to take over the whole of Riverside we can let you have the whole house. We call this a private booking and it is usually done on a weekly basis. as a private booking. This is particularly popular over the Christmas and New Year period and this is usually done on a weekly basis.
If you arrive before 1pm, someone will definitely be here to meet you; otherwise if we both have to go out, we will always be back by 4-30 pm. Normal check-in is from 4:30 until 7:30; if you plan to arrive outside these hours please contact us.
